War, Death, Poverty, Love – The Art of Käthe Kollwitz
The Käthe Kollwitz Museum, which houses the world's largest collection of the work of the artist Käthe Kollwitz, is located in the heart of downtown Cologne. You can find more than 300 drawings and over 550 graphic prints and posters. Käthe Kollwitz is one of the most famous German artists of the 20th century and worked with a variety of media. Her realistic and expressionist prints, paintings, and sculptures reflect the spirit of her time and deal with the themes of war, death, social criticism, mothers and children, and politics. The collection ranges from the early to the late works of Käthe Kollwitz; on display are her book graphics, charcoal drawings, and pastels, as well as fifteen bronze sculptures. In addition, the museum hosts temporary exhibitions related to the work of Käthe Kollwitz.
