In her first museum solo show in Germany, the Berlin-based artist and writer Michaela Eichwald (b. 1967) presents new paintings. In the past few years, the Lenbachhaus was able to acquire several works by Eichwald, which will also make their public début in the exhibition. Eichwald often executes her paintings on unconventional support media such as synthetic leather or car seat covers. Collaged photographs of her own art and found materials appear in her works together with short texts, aphorisms, and corny jokes. Combining a penchant for linguistic humor honed in the Cologne scene of the 1980s and 1990s with a wideranging pictorial vocabulary, Eichwald has developed a style that is unmistakably her own.
