Masterpieces of the middle ages
The Museum Schnütgen in Cologne offers an aesthetic art experience like no other museum - enjoy art in the quiet atmosphere of a church! The Cäcilienkirche, one of the oldest churches in Cologne, offers an ideal space to marvel at the exhibits from the Middle Ages and the Baroque. Immerse yourself in the world of sacred art: among other things, wooden sculptures, ivory carvings, glass paintings, stone sculptures, and goldsmith's art are on display. Highlights of the collection are the crucifix from St. George and the ivory comb of St. Heribert. Cologne was one of the largest German metropolises of the Middle Ages and the Museum Schnütgen offers an impressive insight into the history of the city. It conveys connections not only with regard to religion but also to the art, history, and culture of Europe.
