Lively encounter and exchange between East and West
Founded in 1913 as the first special museum of its kind in Germany, the Museum für Ostasiatische Kunst offers a collection of Chinese, Japanese and Korean art. But not only the collection is impressive: the building is also worth a visit. The modern building at Aachener Weiher is the only work of the important Japanese architect Kunio Maekawa in Europe. In the center of the museum there is also a landscape garden, designed in the tradition of Japanese meditation gardens. Through the harmonious interplay of Japanese and Western elements, Maekawa has created a building that functions as a place of lively encounter and exchange between East and West.
