Come and experience the world of mining close-up!
Here at the German Mining Museum, we research vast periods of history on extracting, processing and making use of our natural resources, exploring the long-lasting influence of the changes in society it caused and preserving important records for future generations. Our museum, one of the biggest museums in Germany, is tasked with showcasing the development, extraction, depletion and processing of our natural resources through our exhibits.
But we also closely examine the social-historical and cultural developments that came with mining and its long history. Our researchers seek out and gather information from all over the world and their knowledge, along with the many exhibits found on their research trips, can be seen in our exhibitions.
We’re building the future - for you. The German Mining Museum in Bochum is being renovated. The exhibitions are being rearranged, so from 2017 the above-ground exhibition halls will no longer be open to visitors. But with the mining experience and our shaft descent simulator, as well as the DBM+ facility, key elements of our museum will remain open to visitors during restoration works. In the meantime, four themed tours are taking place in our permanent exhibition area, exploring the topics of coal mining, people and mining, our natural resources, as well as art and mining.
