On the occasion of the generous bestowal by Sigrid Kaus, Brücke-Museum will be presenting the work of artist Max Kaus (1881–1977). Berlin-based Kaus was a close friend of the Brücke artists: He made the acquaintance of Erich Heckel during the First World War. Later, around 1920 and back in Berlin, Heckel introduced him to Otto Mueller and Karl Schmidt-Rottluff. The year 2020 thus also marks the 100th anniversary of the friendship and artistic exchange between Kaus and Schmidt-Rottluff, the founder of the Brücke-Museum. Kaus’ extensive network of persons and artworks will be highlighted in dialogue with works by the Brücke artists.
