In 2016 the family of the sculptor Jussuf Abbo (1888 - 1953) made a donation. The Berlinische Galerie now presents works from the years between 1916 and 1929 in its permanent exhibition. Since its founding 45 years ago, the Berlinische Galerie has been committed to art that was ostracized and driven out by National Socialism. Ripping it out of oblivion and keeping it alive in cultural memory is an ongoing concern of our practice of collecting, exhibiting and mediating. Purchases of Expressionist or New Objectivity art are rarely possible, however, and usually succeed only with generous financial support from the Senate or private patrons. All the more fortunate are donations by descendants of persecuted and emigrated artists.
